In which the industrious men of the Gun Club, guided by the cool counsels of science and the bold arithmetic of engineers, undertake the prodigious enterprise of hurling a projectile toward the Moon, and, by a most audacious turn of events, resolve to voyage within it themselves like navigators of the celestial seas. Thus begins a grand scientific adventure of calculation, machinery, and human daring, wherein learned men, vast engines, and the silent heavens combine to carry three intrepid travellers into the immensities of space, while all the Earth watches with anxious curiosity.
