With more than three decades of experience in finance, cooperative development, and succession planning, Roy is a recognized leader in the field of employee ownership both in Michigan and across the country. Raised on a dairy farm in Ohio, Roy developed an early appreciation for the value of hard work, shared responsibility, and community-focused enterprise. His career began in agricultural cooperative banking before moving into business consulting and ownership transition strategies. Over the years, he has guided countless companies through the process of adopting employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs), and worker cooperatives, ensuring that employees have a meaningful stake in the success of their organizations. In addition to his role at MICEO, Roy works with the Employee Ownership Expansion Network (EOX), contributing to a national movement that's creating more resilient businesses, better jobs, and stronger local economies. He is widely recognized for his ability to translate complex ownership models into practical solutions that protect legacies, strengthen communities, and build wealth for working people. Most recently, Roy played a key role in launching Michigan's $500,000 pilot program designed to support business owners in transitioning to employee ownership—a milestone initiative that positions the state as a leader in addressing the looming succession crisis.
