They went into the country of Moab and remained there." [Ruth 1:1-2 RSV] NEWS FLASH - Royal Heartbreak! Following the news of the famine in the land, Elimelech and his immediate family leave Bethlehem to self-isolate in Moab. In the Book of Ruth, we are introduced to a family of royal pedigree.  Elimelech, his wife Naomi and their two sons were of royal pedigree.  Elimelech was destined for the throne.   Elimelech had the potential to become king.  He made a serious error in judgment when he left his people behind and relocated to Moab with his immediate family.
