Royals Closer Out for Season | Kansas City Royals News

Royals closer Carlos Estévez is set for right shoulder surgery on September 8th, ending his season and leaving a glaring void in the bullpen. After battling a foot contusion, lost velocity, and persistent shoulder issues from a rotator-cuff strain, rehab failed to restore form. Signed to a two-year deal before the season, Estévez’s injury forces the Royals to scramble—Lucas Erceg and Alex Lange haven’t stepped up, while prospects Nate Pearson and Steven Cruz could be key. The surgery may be exploratory, but Estévez is expected to miss the rest of the year. With the bullpen in chaos, the front office will prioritize a closer this offseason—and these final games could decide who steps into the role.
