Royals Send Spence Down After 22-1 Rout

The Royals took a brutal 22-1 beating from the White Sox, and the fallout started fast—pitcher Mitch Spence was sent down to Triple-A after surrendering 10 runs in just 1.2 innings. With a staggering 21.21 ERA, Spence’s struggles have led to whispers of overseas stints, like some past pitchers have taken. In his place, 26-year-old Eric Cerantola was called up, showing promise in Triple-A with a 2.67 ERA despite a rough 9.00 ERA in the majors. The Royals, clinging to a slim Wild Card hope, face the White Sox again today in Chicago—looking to bounce back from one of the worst losses in franchise history.
