RSF’23: Episode 10: Gender Roles in the West (and in the Rest), Part II #RSF2023

from Riga Security Forum 2022. Podcast sessions · host LIIA

Even though the Women, Peace, and Security agenda has been in place since 2001, the reality on the ground is often quite different. Instead of rising to the challenge, sometimes the international norms and standards don't meet the expectations. The situations are slowly improving, but often, we're not making it at the right time and at the right place to support women and children in international crisis situations and post-conflict areas. Therefore, for the second time in this year's #RSF2023 edition, we have gathered to talk about the role of gender and, thus, women and children in various conflict situations - the need to empower women, children, and minorities in conflict and post-conflict environments as well as in peacetime. Those issues are being discussed between Merissa Khurma, Program Director of the Middle East Program at the Wilson Center, and Elizabete Elina Vizgunova-Vikmane, Researcher at the Latvian Institute of International Affairs.  The project is the result of successful cooperation between the Latvian Institute of International Affairs, the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Baltic States, the Embassies of the United States, Poland, Canada, Spain as well as international provider of defence, security and aviation life cycle support services and technology solutions "Patria", Riga Graduate School of Law and 5G Techritory forum. Informative project partners - The Baltic Times, Latvia's united news portal lsm.lv, eng.lsm.lv, replay.lv and TV4 Latvia.
