In Chapter 5, Jeremiah was surprised and excited to learn that P.J. was on a track team and coached by his father. He felt happy to know that P.J. and Mr. Kennedy wanted him to attend the race. The three of them also hoped that Mrs. Kennedy would get to the field in time to see P.J. run. While cleaning up their breakfast dishes, Jeremiah wished he could join P.J. and play in the sudsy water. Secretly, he decided he could wait until the day when he would become a member of the Kennedy family for real.
