Running on Empty

from Soul Coherence™ Conversations · host Yaroni Wilken

Why doing more does not fix the emptiness. Why am I so tired, when I haven'tactually done anything different today? I’m sure you know the feeling. You wake up already tired. You move through the day and everything gets done, however somewhere underneath it, you are running on fumes. Bone-tired, no matter how much sleep you got, how much caffeine you had or how much mind over matter talk took place. The kind of tired that sits in the body regardless of rest. Today, we open into Running on Empty. For some of us, running on empty begins somewhere quiet. Somewhere along the way, a belief formed that wantingmore, hoping for more, mattering more, was not safe – and perhaps feeling it is too late to honour that part of you now. That belief simply sits underneath everyday life, steadily costing energy to maintain, leaving less and lessavailable for actually living. For others, running on empty looks entirely different, however the mechanism underneath it is the same. Itshows up as doing everything asked of you. Anticipating what everyone else needs before they've asked. Keeping the peace, keeping everyone comfortable. This is power, quietly and continually, handed outward, to the point where this is what safety feels like — at the discretion of someone else, instead of your own. There is real research behind this. Studies following working adults over time found that self-worth built on performance and approval was one of the strongest predictors of burnout, ahead of even the workload itself. The energy required to keep proving worth, day after day, has proven to be exhausting on all fronts. Right now, wherever you are, let your shoulders drop an inch. Notice your breath — shallow, held, or slow — simply notice it. Running on empty carries a simple question, offered withcuriosity, from right here in the body, not only the mind. Where is your energy actually going, right now, today? Feel for the honest answer, in your body, in this moment. Coherence here is a practice: noticing exactly where the leak is, and consciously choosing, again and again, what actually deserves your energy today. And then taking the next best step that supports the wholeness of you. This week, I invite you to notice one place your energy leaves you without your full consent. Simply see it, without judgment. And once you see it, ask yourself one honest question: what would it look like to consciously choose, today, something that supports a more wholesome version of you? It might be smaller than you expect. A gentle "no," actually uttered. A personal request, spoken. A boundary, held with compassion, without fixing. I am holding a space to bridge — to bring awareness and conscious choice, and to stir a shift in perspective, so you can give yourself permission to take personal responsibility, self-regulate, and become the master of your own energy. For lasting change, we first have to move through the challenging energies, transmute what we find there, in the body, in this life, and gain the wisdom that supports our growth. This is the work I call Soul Coherence™ — and this show is where we'll sit with it together, one conversation at a time. I honour you for being here. I'll meet you in the next conversation.
