Russell George's LEJOG
from LEJOGcast - The Land's End to John o'Groats walking podcast
Russell George is Chair of the Land's End to John o'Groats Association, whose 56 day LEJOG in 2013 is the fastest we've yet featured on the pod. Russell is also our first JOGLEr. In this wide-ranging discussion, we learn about Russell's miserable – and lonely – first week along the Scottish coast that ended with him asleep at the side of an Alness back lane. Things improve after Inverness, with the walk becoming an efficient, sun-drenched wander through an overwhelmingly 'green and pleasant land'. As the miles drop steadily by (Great Glen; West Highland Way; Offa's Dyke), we ask whether LEJOG is work or holiday; we reflect on the abundant kindness of strangers; and we ponder whether a LEJOG lunchtime pint (or three) is ever a good idea. Finally, Russell reveals how LEJOG changed his life, and offers his 'one step at a time' advice to anyone seeking to undertake the journey. You can find out more about the Land's End to John o'Groats Association at https://lejog.org/Russell's walk raised money for Cancer Research UK.
