Russo-Japanese War: How a Distant Conflict Doomed the Romanovs

In 1904, Tsar Nicholas II plunged Russia into a war with Japan over imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea. The conflict, marked by the siege of Port Arthur, the massive land battle at Mukden, and the devastating naval defeat at Tsushima, exposed the Romanov regime's military and administrative weaknesses. Lucas and Luna explore how this distant war triggered the 1905 Revolution, forced Nicholas to grant the October Manifesto and create the Duma, and sowed the seeds of the dynasty's eventual collapse. They discuss Admiral Tōgō's surprise attack, General Kuropatkin's failed command, the epic voyage of the Baltic Fleet, and the Treaty of Portsmouth mediated by Theodore Roosevelt. This episode reveals why the Russo-Japanese War is seen as a pivotal turning point on the road to 1917. #RussoJapaneseWar #PortArthur #Tsushima #Mukden #NicholasII #Romanov #AdmiralTogo #Kuropatkin #BalticFleet #TreatyOfPortsmouth #TheodoreRoosevelt #1905Revolution #OctoberManifesto #RussianEmpire #History #FexingoHistory #ImperialJapan #EasternEurope Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
