Rutger Hauer Appreciation Month - ”The Hitcher”

from Cinema Degeneration · host Cinema Degeneration

We here at Cinema Degeneration have declared May 2022 "Rutger Hauer Appreciation Month!" Twice a week we'll be releasing a show diving into a different film from Mr. Hauer's catalog of 175 film and television roles all throughout the month of May. The late Rutger Hauer, who unfortunately passed away in 2019, was a consummate professional thespian, writer, director, and devoted environmentalist, amongst many many other things. He graced the silver screen in many amazing shockers and brilliant films, normally playing heavies and villains and was known for his intense yet subtle performances. His amazing talent truly knew no bounds. For our 3rd episode we bring you a review and deep dive discussion on a Hauer heavy hitter with the 1986 thriller "THE HITCHER" starring Rutger Hauer, C. Thomas Howell, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.  It's a harrowing tale of what happens to an innocent young man when he picks up a hitchhiker that turns out to be a serial killer. Hauer portrays the titular Hitcher with an eerie conviction so rarely personified on the big screen. Join our hosts Cameron Scott (Cinema Degeneration CEO) and author/filmmaker/avid vhs collector Scott Tepperman of Los Bastardz Productions and Ghost Hunters International as they talk about one of their favorite Rutger Hauer films.   "You wanna know what happens to an eyeball when it gets punctured? Do you got any idea how much blood jets out of a guy's neck when his throat's been slit?"
