Rutgers Stumbles in Opening Loss | Rutgers Scarlet News

Rutgers football’s season opener ended in disaster as they fell to winless UMass 37-21, sparking boos and a wave of fan apathy that signaled deeper trouble. The defense collapsed with missed tackles and blown assignments, while the offense sputtered—especially on the ground—as UMass’s QB dazzled through the air. Halftime saw fans packing up, leaving behind eerie silence that spoke louder than any scoreboard. With leadership known for passion and past success, this loss casts a long shadow over head coach Greg Schiano’s future—and the program’s fragile rebuilding efforts.
