Rutgers Stumbles in Season Opener | Rutgers Scarlet News

Rutgers stumbled to a brutal season opener, falling 37-21 to UMass in their first loss since 2017. After a promising opening drive, the Scarlet Knights’ offense fizzled and their defense couldn’t contain UMass’s ground game. The Minutemen scored six times—three TDs and three field goals—to build an insurmountable lead. QB Dylan Lonergan threw for 200+ yards and two TDs but also tossed three picks, while the offensive line surrendered five sacks. Backup QB AJ Surace flashed potential with a touchdown pass, and WR KJ Duff shined with nearly 200 yards and all three touchdowns—but it wasn’t enough to overcome the team’s overall struggles. Rutgers now faces a steep climb to fix both offense and defense before the next game. Listen in comfort:Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
