Altogether, the three films raked in almost a billion dollars. The three films' collective box-office earnings make it the fourth highest-grossing film series based on young-adult books, after those of Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games. Born and raised in Georgia, Dashner now lives and writes in the Rocky Mountains with his wife and their four children. The House of Tongues, his new adult horror novel, was inspired by the stories his family told of their run-in with a serial killer.
