“S” is for South Carolina Coastal Conservation League

“S” is for South Carolina Coastal Conservation League. Established in 1989, the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League has been a leading voice in the campaign to protect and preserve the coastal plain of the state. The grassroots, nonprofit organization has offices in Columbia, Beaufort, and Charleston. Its mission is to “protect the threatened resources of the coastal plain--its natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, clean water, and traditional communities-- by working with citizens and government on pro-active, comprehensive solutions to environmental challenges.” League initiatives are aimed at three separate categories: land and communities, clean water, and forests and wildlife. A variety of methods, ranging from research to litigation, are used to accomplish its mission. Working with businesses and communities, the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League has formed alliances with other conservation groups on both the state and national levels.
