S01E05 - An Interview with Hagen Von Tulien

from The Magister Dixit Podcast · host Rob Yench

Hagen von Tulien, born in Berlin, Germany, is a contemporary artist and occultist with a profound journey spanning four decades. His artistic endeavors, rooted in pen and ink, paper cut, collage, and digital formats, serve as expressions of magical states of awareness and function as esoteric tools. During the 1980s, Hagen encountered Chaos Magic, a current that continues to captivate and inspire him. Throughout the 1990s, he played a pivotal role in the Chaos-Magical Pact of the Illuminates of Thanateros (I.O.T.), serving as its section head for Germany. Hagen's artistic and spiritual pursuits extend beyond Chaos Magic, encompassing a diverse array of occult systems and traditions. He is a Master-Initiate of the Fraternitas Saturni (F.S.) and an empowered adept of the Voudon Gnostic Current, dedicated to researching Saturnian and Voudon Gnosis. As a Gnostic Bishop of the Ecclesia Gnostica Spiritualis (EGS), ordained by Michael Bertiaux, Hagen actively engages in manifesting divine Gnosis Aeterna within himself while assisting others on their own paths to spiritual freedom. His artistic contributions include the publication of books such as "Occult Psaligraphy: The Hidden Art of Papercuts," reflecting his unique exploration of magical symbolism through intricate papercuts. Hagen's art is not only a testament to his magical theories and practices but also a bridge between the realms of the esoteric and the artistic. In addition to his private teachings and rituals, Hagen propagates Chaos Magic principles, aligning them with the modern era. His art and magical pursuits stand as two foundational pillars of his life, interwoven with experiences built upon a deep engagement with various esoteric and hermetic traditions. Hagen von Tulien's biography is a narrative of a lifelong pursuit of magical knowledge, artistic expression, and a commitment to sharing esoteric insights with the world.
