The Election of 1876 is decided: Samuel Tilden is now officially an Almost President! Embittered partisans from both political parties, as well as the people of the (Newly) United States must face the election's outcome. For the Democrats, it's facing down yet another Republican administration with the upside of an end to so-called "bayonet-rule." For the Republicans, it's abandonment of Reconstruction in the South and the safety and liberty of the newly freedmen with the upside of Rutherford B. Hayes winning the election. But as Trump demonstrated in the wake of the 2020 Election, is an election every really over? Not according to the Potter Committee, founded to investigate the 1876 Election with surprising results.
