S1 E1: Welcome to Autistic Licence!

from Autistic Licence Hosted by Siana McGarvey & Leo Ricketts

In this first episode, we talk about why we're starting our podcast. Leo remembers the comfort of the spoken word on radio in trying to escape the fear of night-time silence as an undiagnosed autistic kid. Whilst Siana thinks about her own childhood discomfort with speaking out, and why sometimes staying quiet can be a survival response for a child living an autistic experience. As these conversations unfold, we make new connections and re-frame our narratives, and we hope that this might have a similar effect on our listeners. We talk about how autistic people might find validation and familiarity in our experiences, and how non-autistic people might recognise and better understand autistic people in their lives. We also begin to explore how being #actuallyautistic therapists influences our work, and why autistic-to-autistic therapy is so important. Plus, what is “autistic communication” anyway? I'm an INFJ and I'm here to show you through my podcast that you are not alone, you are not crazy, you are not autistic, or a sociopath. You are just misunderstood, and the more you realize that there are others like you out there, the less alone and confused you are going to feel. You are here to fulfill a great purpose. The purpose of the INFJ is diverse, beautiful, and unicorn-like, just like you. Let me help you, through this podcast, and my YouTube channel, to help you gain a better understanding of yourself, and to become the best version of yourself as much as possible.
