S1 E12: Cryptozoology 101

from That Would Be Rad · host Woody Brown and Tyler Bence

There are creatures here on Earth so amazing and bizarre that throughout history they were once thought to be "myths" by scientists. Creatures so strange that the stories about them were quickly dismissed as "tall tales" villagers would share with expeditionists around a campfire. Creatures that are now so familiar to us that it's almost impossible for us to believe they were one time thought to be legends or fairytales. Did you know the Gorilla is an example of this? This week our hosts WOODY BROWN and TYLER BENCE give you an introductory course of CRYPTOZOOLOGY. Cryptozoology is the search for and study of animals (commonly referred to as "cryptids") whose existence or survival is disputed or unsubstantiated. They'll take you through a quick history of animals that were discovered to be more than "mythical" and recognized by the scientific community not too far in the very recent past. They go over some of the cryptids that are being chased down and hunted today and give an excellent primer for future deep dive episodes into some of these creatures and the fascinating encounters that have occurred all around the world for hundreds of years!
