This is often seen in different forms, which could be in art form, science and yes music. Music has so many definitions, but this one appeals to me, ‘vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion’. The musical expression is one that has an appeal to practically everyone. People are drawn to the rhythm of sound even when they do not understand what is being said lyrically. There is this connection telepathically on an emotional scale of unity. In this episode of the Word Café Podcast, I have the opportunity to sit with an individual who in my opinion has a unique style of expressing her impressions musically, that when you listen to her, you are literally transported to a dimension that opens you up to exciting realities. She renders it in an ‘Oriki’ fashion. Oriki is cultural thing associated with the Yoruba culture. The word 'Oriki" can be translated as panegyric which is a form of praise poetry. In the Yoruba culture, each settlement or minor tribe has its own Oriki. ... The name usually carries a praise poetry with it which is used to inspire the bearer of the name Who might this person be, you are wondering right? Her name is Bamike OBA Adeyemi.
