Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical. Longer-term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships, and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea. While these feelings are normal, some people have difficulty moving on with their lives. Psychologists can help these individuals find constructive ways of managing their emotions. https://www.apa.org/topics/traumaFrom the above, it is apparent that we all deal with one kind of trauma or the other, seeing that trauma is an emotional response, a stimulus that triggers a very unpleasant reaction. In so many cases, these stimuli build up over a while unexpressed, and these unexpressed emotions affect the individual who is the bearer negatively.We have witnessed situations where individuals who find themselves in such cases react badly to seemingly trivial issues, more like looking for where to release those pent-up emotions. The result is, more often than not, very disastrous.In this episode of the word café, we will look at what trauma is and how to handle it.
