S1 Ep. 74 Remote Working in Nigeria

from The Word Café Podcast with Amax · host Amachree Isoboye Afanyaa

Send us Fan MailIs the corner office pursuit still accurate, or Is it the fight of the home office now? This thought came to my mind today, looking back to the years leading to pre-COVID; this was the dream for so many of us in the corporate 'rat race' pursuit for that promotion, recognition, and the chair on the big table. It was part of that extrinsic identity to be seen as the boss or the goal-getter.In the light of the present realities, I ask myself, is the corner office syndrome still relevant, considering we are all somewhat operating from different corners of the earth far from that office space, which before now created that sense of the 'boss man in charge' mindset? Obviously, this order is redefined, and our classification will not be the same again. The other day, a colleague of mine dropped a line in our conversation; I can't believe it is a little over a year since I stepped into the office building, and yet I have been so productive operating from my home' office.' Wake up and smell the coffee; the corner office is gone for good. All we have now is a home office and what counts now is the value you can create through diligence and not the service of the eyes.So many organizations globally are rethinking their process and structure of operating to make the best use of the current. We are all dealing with the reality of remote working in its different shades and sizes now. It is seen in hybrid form and complete 'ghost mode.' Recently I carried out an independent survey on the subject. The response I got was obvious; people are embracing the style of work in which they want to be in control of their time without affecting productivity. So now we ask, does physical presence equal productivity? In this episode of the Word Café, I will be discussing this within the Nigerian work context with Tari Akhibi.Tari Akhibi is a Human Resources Professional with over 20 years of experience, successfully delivering HR Management, including recruitment and retention, learning delivery, change management, business planning, budget planning, and Industrial Relations.
