S1 Ep17: No Mud, No Lotus: Dismantling White Supremacy in Yoga and Collective Healing | Jonelle Lewis

from Conversations with Nova Reid · host Nova Reid

In this episode I talk to Jonelle Lewis, a mother and incredible yoga teacher smashing stereotypes.Jonelle and I met at an event on International Women's Day a few years ago and have been friends ever since. She is a force of nature who doesn't mince her words and speaks truth about white supremacy in the wellness industry. Jonelle's experience of dealing with racism in the wellness industry is such an important lesson. Despite the noise, Jonelle listened to the small voice calling her to teach, went to India to train and has been teaching yoga in person and online ever since. We talk about her experience as a black woman with boobs and butt in yoga, how she's cultivated resilience from dealing with white supremacy, and she shares the wisdom and fire that makes her such a powerful soul. In the episode we also discuss: - How Jonelle was called to teach yoga- Violence in the wellness industry - Her experience at Howard University (which is an all black university in the U.S) - The importance of seeing Anti-Racism work as the healing work it is- Decolonising the wellness industry You can connect with Jonelle on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jonelleyoga/ and at her website: https://www.jonellelewis.com/ You can connect with me over at @novareidofficial(https://www.instagram.com/novareidofficial/) and atwww.novareid.com If you are ready to do the inner work and learn to be actively anti racist please visit my website for further details about my anti racism online course:  https://novareid.com/services/anti-racism-white-privilege-course/Don't forget if you learn something and these add value you can join my brand new podcast community over on Patreon to support this work and get access to a exclusive content: https://www.patreon.com/novareid.If this podcast resonates with you, please leave a review
