John 2 marks the beginning of the first section of the gospel where he shows how Jesus is the fulfillment of Jewish hopes, using four fixtures in the Jewish faith. Jesus begins his public ministry at a wedding in Cana where He turns water into wine, using the jars intended for the Jewish rites of purification. John then tells the story of Jesus cleansing the temple, but pairs it with a conversation with Jewish religious leaders about the destruction of the temple.
