In John 3, a Pharisee named Nicodemus comes to Jesus by night to ask questions, and Jesus tells him that the in order to be saved you must be born again, born of the Spirit, not of flesh. He uses the story of the Bronze Serpent in Numbers 21 to show how it is a picture of the salvation Jesus offers. Then, many of John the Baptist's disciples note how many are leaving him to follow Jesus. John the Baptist affirms their choice since Jesus from above and greater than himself.
