S1E114: 114| Soul Searching with Bess Hepworth- Part 1

from Hong Kong Confidential · host Auscast Network

Bess Hepworth is an Australian born mother, wife and a human rights defender. Bess spends most of her time raising her sons and being the proud founder of Planet Ally, a group whose mission is to empower allyship and give people the resources and tools to advance human rights and help build stronger, more resilient communities. An active LGBTQ community member in the Asia-Pacific region and champion of positive change, Bess specialises in using social media as a tool for visibility, solidarity and advocacy for LGBTQ communities. Bess shares her deeply personal story with us and opens up about things that she has never spoken about publicly. She shares the impact and pain that she and her family faced when her mother was killed in a boating accident when Bess was a young girl. She explores her grief and the impact this had on her and opens up about the challenges she faced growing up with a family member who became abusive towards her. Bess talks about coming out as a lesbian and how her life has been enriched by her loving wife and her two beautiful sons. This is a moving and confronting podcast where Bess courageously bares her soul in the hope that sharing her story will help her heal from the deep wounds that she suffered as a child. This is part one of a two part podcast.
