S1E2: The First Cut Is the Deepest
from Seriously?! A Grey's Anatomy Rewatch Podcast Hosted by Le Studio Quinze
Grey's Anatomy Season 1, Episode 2 We're only two episodes into Grey's Anatomy, and the doctors at Seattle Grace are already breaking rules, crossing boundaries, and making some VERY questionable decisions. This week on Seriously?!, Montreal cardiologist Dr. Christopher Labos and media personality Robyn Flynn revisit "The First Cut Is the Deepest," an episode featuring a severed penis, a baby with a potentially life-threatening heart condition, and an intern performing an unauthorized medical procedure in a hospital parking lot. You know, just another day at Seattle Grace. Chris breaks down the medical realities behind the drama, including how hospital code teams actually operate, why you can't shock someone who's flatlined, and what Grey's Anatomy gets right (and wrong) about cardiac emergencies. Meanwhile, Robyn is keeping track of the show's early milestones, including our very first "McDreamy" reference and, appropriately enough, the first "Seriously?!" Plus, we discuss Meredith and Izzie's very different approaches to breaking the rules, the surprisingly realistic portrayal of first-year residents, the importance of remembering the person behind the patient, and why Richard Webber has apparently been planning his retirement since 2005. Is being medically correct enough to justify breaking hospital protocol? Would George really be running a code blue? And why is Meredith carrying a severed penis around in a cooler?! Seriously?!
