S1E6 - Love, Neurodiversity & Authentic Connections

from Blissful Connections

In this heartfelt episode of Blissful Connections, we delve into the world of neurodiversity and authentic human connections. Join me as I sit down with Nick Baker, a talented musician who is both blind and on the autism spectrum, along with his wonderful mom, Kathy Passage. Our moms, Doy and Kathy, share their unique perspectives, enriching our discussion on navigating life as neurodivergent and blind individuals. We explore: Personal experiences of neurodiversity: Nick's journey as an autistic individual and my own path as neurodivergent with mild ADHD and being highly emotionally sensitive. Stimming behaviors and how they’ve been misunderstood. For me, it was twiddling, and for Nick, it was jumping up and down – things we naturally did to self-regulate but were forced to suppress growing up because society didn’t understand. Now, we’re learning to embrace these behaviors without shame. Healing and Forgiveness: How understanding has evolved, and we’ve learned to forgive ourselves and others because everyone was doing the best they could with the knowledge they had. Breaking free from masking – how today, we are both embracing who we truly are without the need to hide our natural behaviors. Sensory preferences and neurodivergence, including Nick’s passion for music and my love for satin textures and “Fwoots.” Nick’s experiences with relationships, including his heartfelt song, "You Mean So Much to Me".
