S2 E13 Emergency Preparedness Week - Be Prepared for Anything

Send us Fan MailThis week is emergency preparedness week in Canada, the one week a year where the government attempts to focus your attention on their ideals and suggestions about preparedness.  This week's episode takes a non-sheep approach to the tag line - be prepared for anything.  This is a poor choice of wording and while it may be build on a foundation of encouraging citizens to consider the hazards that are in their area and begin to prepare for those situations, it is more than likely going to turn off more radios than on.  To be prepared for anything is to consider everything - that alone is a key message that throughout academic works, books and expert advice is an absolute no-no.  Focussing citizens on achievable goals, working towards a more resilient community - those are the outcomes governments should be working towards.  It is popular today for the government to be announcing decisions that are grounded in the best science, advocate for by the experts in the field.  However, they systematically ignore the very same advice for preparedness, avoiding the evidence and encouraging behaviours that do not improve outcomes.  Have a listen, comment and enjoy!Support the showhttps://preparednesslabs.ca/
