The current day State of Maine was part of Massachusetts during the American Revolution. And, when Thomas Gage needed certain supplies, he knew present day Maine could supply it. He was willing to trade for what he needed and it wasn't blueberries he needed. Very few people have heard of Machias, Maine and the roll it played in the American Revolution.
