S2 E17: Spontaneous Human Combustion

from That Would Be Rad · host Woody Brown and Tyler Bence

It's a bird, it's a plane, wait...my neighbor burst into flames?? As if we didn't have enough to worry about in the world - why not add the strange and mysterious phenomenon of spontaneous human combustion to the list. On this week's show we explore Spontaneous Human Combustion (SHC), a phenomenon that is well documented throughout history - dating back as far as the 17th Century. It is the strange and mysterious occurrence where a human body ignites and burns without any known contact with an external source of fire. In some cases the victim only suffers slight damage. In others they are reduced to ashes. But, in the strangest of cases - nearby objects somehow escape unscathed...the chair or bed the victim was lying or sitting on and sometimes even the clothes on the charred body only slightly singed. Like many mysteries and strange phenomena - many theories and attempted scientific explanations can be found...BUT, like many UNSOLVED mysteries... the true explanation with experimental data to back it up...continues to be undiscovered. Join us this week as we dive into Spontaneous Human Combustion. Thank you so much for listening, don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always...
