S2 E25: Paul Amadeus Dienach - Chronicles from The Future

from That Would Be Rad · host Woody Brown and Tyler Bence

In 1924, Paul Amadeus Dienach a German language teacher living in Greece, became gravely ill. He was dying of tuberculosis, and he wanted to return home, for one last time, to his country of origin Switzerland before he died. But - before he left, he gave hundreds of pages of his own handwritten notes to his favorite language student Georgios Papachatzis.  Dienach thought translating his notes would help Papachatzis in his study of the German language. They said goodbye and never saw each other again. Papachatzis began to translate the pages…as he did, he wasn’t sure if he was reading the greatest novel he’d ever laid his eyes on, or the rantings of a lunatic. There were whole passages about a coming nuclear war, colonizing Mars, and a global government. Sections about flying vehicles, holographic technology, devices that resembled things we use today on a daily basis (like an iPhone) and EVEN contact with alien life. Papachatzis thought what he was reading had to be a science fiction novel.  But as more and more of the text was revealed, Papachatzis was shocked at what he discovered. This wasn't a novel at all. This was actually Dienach's personal diary. Dienach wrote about how he went into a coma and woke up 2000 years in the future...in the year 3906. Join us this week as we tell his story...a story so much more complex and intriguing than just "time travel"...a story that absolutely blew our minds.
