Moni Lashes (Monica Majcen), mother of 2 and matriarch of the Adelaide, South Australian Rock n Roll band "The Babes" joins me in The Engine Room this week to discuss her musical journey. The Babes who formed in 2011, are: Moni Lashes on drums, her sister Donna D on lead guitar, their brother Corey Stone on bass, and a brother-from-another-mother, JD on lead vocals. Moni has a unique addition to her Pearl Drum Kit drum kit which is partially a Harley Davidson! They have toured extensively throughout Australia, the U.S.A, Japan and the Middle East, playing sold out shows, and recruiting new members to their official fan club, the "Rock n Roll Gang". The Babes have been the main support band for: Ace Frehley (KISS), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) twice, Girlschool, Cherie Currie (The Runaways), Bulletboys, Venom Inc, Hardcore Superstar twice, LA Guns, Bullet, Faster Pussycat, The Radiators, Dragon and more... Moni was first taught by her drummer dad Don Dimasi prior to having lessons with in demand drum teacher Laurie Kennedy, at the Noarlunga TAFE. After leaving school she had various jobs including managing the Marion Family Entertainment Centre Store 'Intensity', Politics, 4 years as a Police officer, and as a Drum Teacher prior to the band taking off. The Babes' debut tour of the U.S.A in 2018 included sold out shows at: Whisky A Go-Go supporting LA Guns, featured artists at Cruefest Hollywood Festival at the Whisky A Gogo, performing at Las Vegas' renown Count's Vamp'd twice, seven shows at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, including 3 sets at TV-famed venue Full Throttle Saloon, which draws 500,000 biker rock n roller lovers, and a live national TV appearance interview and performance on Las Vegas Morning Blend TV program to 2 million viewers. 2019 saw The Babes debut tour of Japan to HUGE energetic crowds in Tokyo, and Kyoto, and they were invited to perform for the troops in the Middle East, performing shows in Iraq to the Allies including USA, Australian, Italian and Swedish soldiers.
