Chinas politische Kultur, sein politisches System und der Alltag seiner Bürger lassen sich kaum verstehen, hat man nicht einen Blick auf den Maoismus geworfen. Tim Emmel und Sophie Haring nähern sich den Mao Zedong-Gedanken (so der offizielle Name). Dabei fragen sie zunächst, auf welchen ideengeschichtlichen Grundlagen diese aufbauen und stecken dazu das Feld Kapitalismus - Kommunismus - Sozialismus ab, bevor sie die Besonderheiten des Maoismus genauer beleuchten. Der Maoismus entstand zudem in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Sowjetkommunismus und in einer ständigen Fortentwicklung im Land. Seine Strahlkraft war in den 60er Jahren enorm: Sowohl die linken Bewegungen, z.B. die Studentenbewegungen in Westdeutschland, als auch emanzipatorische Bewegungen in den USA und in Asien, Lateinamerika und Afrika griffen auf die Ideen Maos zurück. Wir werfen auch einen Blick auf die Rolle der so genannten "Mao-Bibel", das Buch, das die "Worte des Vorsitzenden Mao Tsetung" zusammenbrachte, sowie auf die aktiven Bemühungen Chinas, diese Ideen zu verbreiten.
