S2.E6. Remember the Sabbath (The Fourth Commandment)
from Red River Reformed · host Jerome Falk, Nic Klein, Will Gray
The Ten Commandments: Episode SixIn the second season of Red River Reformed, we will be discussing the Ten Commandments through the lens of their original meaning, their fulfilment in the New Testament, and their ongoing application for us today. In this episode we discuss the fourth commandment. The fourth commandment is rooted in creation and orders the life and time of God's people around the worship and enjoyment of God in a way that points ahead to the day of resurrection and the eternal rest that God will gives his people in the new creation. We will release episodes weekly on Tuesdays. If you have questions comment or email us! ([email protected]) We will do a mailbag episode at the end of the season. Here are some questions we discuss in this episode: What is the Sabbath day in the context of the seven-day creation narrative of Genesis 1 and 2? What is the significance of remembering the Sabbath as a positive commandment? How does the Sabbath relate to the rest of creation and God's work of forming his people? What is the eschatological significance of the Sabbath? How did Jesus keep the Sabbath? Why did the earliest Christians begin meeting on the first day of the week? How does this relate to the Sabbath? What does the Sabbath prophetically point to? What should characterize worship on the Lord's Day? What are some contemporary applications of the fourth commandment? How should we strive to enter the rest of God?
