🎙️S2 E7 SPECIAL EDITION: Before They Break You The Lindsay Clancy Trial, Psychological Abuse & How to Recognize an Emotionally Unsafe Person
from Healed Love Languages · host Paula
Sometimes he’s nice. Actually, sometimes he’s wonderful. He makes you laugh. He shows up. He’s affectionate. He apologizes. He tells you he loves you. Maybe he prays with you. Maybe those beautiful moments are completely genuine. And that’s exactly what can make emotional and psychological abuse so difficult to recognize. In this special edition of The Healed Love Languages Podcast, Paula Lowe, RN, BSN, CPT, takes a careful look at the conversations surrounding the Lindsay Clancy trial—not to diagnose the people involved or turn unverified allegations into facts, but to ask a much bigger question: How do we recognize an emotionally unsafe person before they have enough access to profoundly affect our lives? Drawing from both her lived experience before becoming a nurse in her 40s and the clinical understanding she gained later, Paula explores how chronic emotional and psychological stress can affect the nervous system, self-trust, sleep, mood, confidence, and the way we experience relationships. We’re talking about the things that don't always leave visible bruises: Gaslighting.Control disguised as concern.Walking on eggshells.Isolation.Weaponized vulnerability.Chronic invalidation.Punishment after boundaries. The inability to take accountability. And the confusing cycle of waiting for the “nice version” of someone to come back. Because relief when someone starts treating you well again can feel incredibly powerful. But relief from distress is not the same thing as emotional safety. And for Christian women, we’re going there too. What does Scripture actually say about love, fear, harshness, truth, accountability, and guarding your heart? And when did having a good heart start meaning we were supposed to hand it repeatedly to people who mishandle it? This episode isn't anti-man. It's anti-abuse. It's anti-manipulation. It's anti-losing-yourself-to-keep-someone. And it's about learning to recognize the good men and women whose character remains safe even when they're angry, disappointed, rejected, or told no. Because maybe we've been asking the wrong question. Instead of:“Is he nice?” Ask: “Is he still safe when he isn't nice?” Instead of: “Does he choose me?” Ask: “After everything I've observed, should I choose him?” ❤️ Heal. Choose Better. Love Better. The goal isn't to become so guarded that nobody can hurt you. The goal is to become healed enough that unsafe love stops looking like love.
