S2 Ep. 4 - Do We need AP?

from What's Best For Kids? · host Rob Coppo and Don Collins

Advanced Placement classes that were once designed for a select few who wanted to challenge themselves academically have become de facto requirements for college admission. High school students are piling on what are supposed to be college level courses in a desperate attempt to out-perform the competition. But are these classes helping students learn content on a deeper level, or are they teaching them how to cram for a test? Since College Board is a billion dollar “non-profit” company, we need to examine the purpose and value of AP classes so we can better help kids and families make sense of the myriad demands our students face when it comes to building a transcript.
