S2 Episode 10 - The Upside of Consulting

from Outstanding Women Leaders · host outstandingwomenleaders

Erin Halper is on a mission to help ambitious professionals achieve the freedom, flexibility, and work-life integration that come with consulting.  She learned firsthand how important these values are when she was pregnant with her first son, receiving the news no parent ever wants to hear: There’s something wrong with your baby. (Don’t worry, he’s perfectly healthy now!) At the time, she was in a very demanding private equity job, and there was no way she could continue working full-time and manage his surgeries and doctor’s appointments. Something had to change.  Erin did the bold and brave things and went on to build her consultant agency, spending 7 years providing marketing expertise to her private equity, real estate investor and hedge fund clients. She was able to make a high 6-figure income, while having the flexibility to manage her son’s health, have her second son, maintain a strong marriage, and move homes twice. (Whew!) Since launching The Upside in 2017, Erin’s advised more than 1,000 professionals on how to build a respected consultancy practice that generates consistent clients and affords them the freedom and flexibility that come with being your own boss. Tune in to hear how Erin is helping Women Leaders create a consulting career of their dreams. Coaches and other service providers, you'll want to tune in to hear this too! Give a hoot and say OWL do it!   Erin is a mentor at Columbia University’s Almaworks startup accelerator and a judge at NYU’s TrepCamp entrepreneur simulator. Erin is a frequent speaker at events and conferences including Harvard University’s International Women in Business Conference, Brown University’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference, and FutureWork Live, plus a frequent guest on podcasts such as Mind of a Mentor, The Accidental Entrepreneur, Above + Below and Just Go Grind.  Erin earned a BBA in Marketing from The George Washington University and studied art at Parsons School of Design in Paris, France.
