S2 Episode 16: A Walk With Daniel with Daniel Maté, Composer, Lyricist, Mental Chiropractor

from NotYourOrdinaryParts · host Jalon Johnson

Daniel Maté is an award-winning musical theatre songwriter, playwright, educator, and “mental chiropractor.” He has presented his work at the Kennedy Center and New York’s Lincoln Center. Outside of music and theatre, Daniel runs the world’s only “mental chiropractic” service, Take A Walk with Daniel. Daniel is also co-author of two books with his father Dr. Gabor Maté; Hello Again: A Fresh Start for Parents and Their Adult Children which is forthcoming and The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture. Ironically “in the most health conscious society of all time, all is not well” and Daniel is passionate and purposeful in using his talents to help people access their own innate freedom, clarity, creativity, and true intelligence by discovering what alignment means for them. Maybe you’ve done such a good job of “managing for so long” having to do something different or talk to someone can feel uncomfortable. The idea of therapy, to me, felt like I had to admit that there was something wrong with me or that I’d be showing the world that I was broken or didn't have it all together… but when my health started to suffer, and I was anxious 24/7… I realized my body was trying to tell me something was wrong and I learned that there is no “good health” without mental health. Therapy was the answer for me, it helped me put down all of the heavy things that I was carrying that didn’t belong to me. While therapy can provide so much relief, finding a therapist can feel so daunting.
