S2E1 - Petiton of Right

from Power & Politics: Unraveling History · host Martin A. Lessem

Today we will be looking at the Petition of Right from England. To understand it, we will need to first take a brief look at England under both James I and mainly, his son, Charles I. We will look at the cuases of the English Civil War, which will help us understand how the Petition of Right led directly to it.As always, we will then look at how this influenced our own Constitution here in the United States. This is a longer Episode, but one well worth understanding if you want a better grasp of how the Third, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments came about.
