S2E1 - What Is Catechesis
from The Catholic Why Hosted by Veritas Catholic Network
In this episode of The Catholic Why in our season two series: Catholic Education, we explore a key but often misunderstood part of Catholic life—catechesis. What does it really mean, and why is it so central to the Church’s mission? Catechesis is more than just religious education or learning facts about the faith. It is the process of forming believers in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Church, helping them grow in knowledge, understanding, and lived discipleship. From preparing children for the sacraments to deepening adult faith, catechesis is about lifelong formation. We’ll break down how catechesis works in practice, who is responsible for it, and how it connects Scripture, Tradition, and daily Christian living. We’ll also explore why the Church places such importance on forming both the mind and the heart. If you’ve ever wondered how Catholics learn and grow in their faith, this episode offers a clear and meaningful introduction.
