S2E10 - Grace Gichanga: Attorney & founder: LUMA (legal literacy chatbot)

from Sisters In Conversation · host Tebello Motshwane

Grace Gichanga is an admitted attorney having obtained her LLB from WITS. Her experience spans over 10 years across both private practice and the public sector in disciplines that range from corporate and commercial law to transfer pricing. In response to her original calling as to why she studied law, Grace founded Masenze South Africa in 2018 which focused on basic literacy workshops across various townships and the inner city. This resulted in over 50 workshops over 2 years. It is in this time and while studying the Social Entrepreneurship program at Gibs, that she first came up with the idea of LUMA a legal literacy chatbot available on familiar and accessible chat platforms to assist everyday South Africans on their legal journey. I really had a fulfilling conversation with Grace because it was reaffirmation that the work we do on the ground in educating people, especially women about the law, should not be taken for granted and it also highlighted that access to justice and to the law is still a luxury for many many South Africans. I hope this episode encourages you to introspect and remember your “why”, why law? If you enjoyed this episode or can’t wait to give it a listen, share it on Instagram.
