S2E11. Dique Quarantine

from Dique Chisme Hosted by Dique Chisme

Coming to you live from Quarantine 2020, your favorite Chismosas give you an update on what quarantine life has been like (3:36). While the COVID-19 pandemic has many “non-essential” workers working from home, financially many people are experiencing hardship (10:25). Dique Quarantine is a blessing in disguise. While many are feeling caged in their home, quarantine can actually give us the opportunity to practice self care, take a break, be productive, connect with friends and family and so much more (18:54). Realizing and processing the reality we are all experiencing takes time, “there’s levels to this shit!” (30:30). What’s really going on with the Stimulus Checks? Are you eligible for one? Let’s talk about ehhh (39:35). 45 is out here still being racist and xenophobic, we’d be lying if we said we were surprised. What we are surprised about is the government’s response to the pandemic (44:58). While the rest of us are bunkering down in our homes, celebrities happen to get their hands on COVID-19 tests before anyone else. What’s the trufff? (54:46). We send a quick shoutout to our leaders and essential workers who continue to do their jobs despite the late support from the federal government (57:50). Take Away: Stay home. Be safe. Now you’re all caught up with the latest, continue supporting us and like always, until next time Chismosas! Follow us on Twitter and Instagram: @diquechisme

Explicit Chess Piece: The Elián González Story My Cultura and iHeartPodcasts At the turn of the millennium, a five-year-old boy from Cuba found off the Florida coast on Thanksgiving became the most talked about child in America. Elián González had left Cuba with his mom and a dozen other migrants, trying to make it to the U.S. but on the way, the boat capsized. Elián’s mother drowned. Before she did, she tied her child to an inner tube, saving his life.Relatives in Miami — Cuban exiles — took the boy in. His father in Cuba wanted him back. The ensuing international custody battle over Elián González became its own mini Cold War, pitting Cuban exiles in Miami against supporters of Castro’s regime on an island just 90 miles away. The fight over Elián’s future came down to neighbor against neighbor, family against family. Now, 25 years later — we revisit his story through the voices of people who lived it firsthand.________________Want to support our independent journalism?
