S2E13, Part 2: Heather Jacks's Book About the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

from Storied: San Francisco · host Jeff Hunt

Heather Jacks's introduction to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence was serendipitous and took place over a couple of decades. In Part 1, we learned of Heather's time with the Christian fundamentalist church in Sacramento. It turns out the Sisters protested Easter service in the capital city during Heather's time there. Fast-forward to this decade: Now back living in the city again, she learned of the amazing charity work that the drag nun group does, and was hooked. In this podcast, Heather explains the inspiration behind her art book that celebrates 40 years of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. In March and April, you'll hear more about the Sisters directly from three nuns. We recorded this podcast at Heritage Restaurant and Bar in February 2019. Film photography by Michelle Kilfeather

The Art of Arms l’Arte Dell Armi At the Art of Arms we have one solitary vision, to bring the historical martial arts we study as HEMA or WMA practitioners to life by telling the stories of those who lived it. The hours of research, writing, transcription and translation are worth it when we get to see Altoni’s Spiedo section in action at the Baglioni Palazzo, Fiore’s armor techniques displayed on the battlefields of San Giovanni in Persiceto, Liectenauer’s rossfechten techniques thundering across the terrain of southern Germany, the Anonimo’s sword and gauntlet brought to bear in the lists of Mantua; these are the moments where history and martial arts meet, and we’re dedicated to bringing these moments to you our dear listeners.
