S2E17 - Psalm 145, God's Goodness, and Common Grace

Send us Fan MailPsalm 145, David's final psalm, is a powerful declaration of who God is and why He deserves our praise. David, the most powerful man in Israel, chose to humble himself before God, modeling the posture that genuine praise requires. To bless God is not to give Him something He lacks, but to acknowledge His goodness and perfection as the standard of all things. God's goodness extends to all of creation through what theologians call common grace, seen in every sunrise, every seed that grows, and every breath we take. His goodness does not promise an easy life, but it does promise that His nature never changes, even in hard seasons. Every attribute David praised in Psalm 145 is fully revealed in Jesus Christ, who is God made flesh. Practicing gratitude trains our eyes to see God at work and, by His design, transforms us from the inside out. He owes us nothing, and yet He gives us everything.
