S2E17 -The Bittersweet Early Diagnosis of Endometriosis, with Lily Avery

from Not Defined by Endo · host Teniola Ogunro

Today’s episode is with Lily Jane Avery, a 19-year Endometriosis warrior, and advocate. Lily was diagnosed with endometriosis at the very young age of 14, and she is one of the few who have had to carry this burden of a chronic disease at such a young age. Despite her early diagnosis, Lily was once told by her doctor to buy a colouring book to colour away her pain. This only made her fight even harder to be heard. Lily is not a victim, oh no! Instead, she has embarked on the very important cause of advocating for and educating both young and old about endometriosis and letting people know that the pain is not in their head. Lily started an Instagram account called @over.endo where she educates people on the various aspects of the disease. Please follow her and show her some love. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
