S2E3 - Understanding Our Emotional Battles

from The Well Said Podcast · host The Well Said Podcast

How do we make sense of the emotional battles that rage in our hearts everyday? How do we react to the seeming powerlessness that we sometimes sense against the waves of high or low that come at us like a tide? One of the key things that the biblical narrative helps us see in the heat of our daily inner termoil that is yes indeed, there as aspects of ourselves that we don’t have direct power to change. We cannot undo some of the most foundational aspects of our brokenness. Our bodies and hearts will forever escape our total comprehension. Sometimes this means facing a daily onslaught of fears and anxieties. Sometimes this means watching the dark clouds of gloom roll in on us. And yet, in the midst of this, the story of Jesus helps us see that, as faith in him awakens our hearts to a new life in him, we do realize that we have the daily choice of activity responding to the clouds and the fears, either in the direction of faith, or the direction of sin. More on this in this week’s discussion! * Get connected with biblical resources * CCEF.org * Christians get depressed too by David Murray * How people change by Tim Lane and Paul Tripp * Running Scared by Ed Welch * Depression: Looking up from the stubborn darkness by Ed Welch * http://www.sbts.edu/theology/center-for-biblical-counseling/resources/
