S2E6: Maidenform

Welcome back to Mad Men & Tonic! It’s S2E6, “Maidenform,” and Kristina and Elias must make clear that no listener should consider its content legal advice. K&E knock back some Fresh Cherry Bourbon Cocktails, and scroll through January Jones’ insta (it won’t be the last time…) (drink lesson at 0:43, episode discussion & recap at 2:35). Plus, the two condemn Duck for betraying the Dads and Dogs trope, and it’s yet another edition of “Kristina’s Feminist Sighs.” Instagrams: https://www.instagram.com/madmenandtonic/ https://www.instagram.com/just_a_good_old_boy/ (our Irish setter friend - justice for Chauncey!) https://www.instagram.com/januaryjones/ S2E6: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1118060/ https://madmen.fandom.com/wiki/Maidenform Our favorite companion book, Mad Men Carousel: The Complete Critical Companion, by Matt Zoller Seitz: https://www.amazon.com/Mad-Men-Carousel-Complete-Companion/dp/1419720635 Other Sources/Cited Materials: https://www.amazon.com/Official-Preppy-Handbook-Lisa-Birnbach/dp/0894801406 https://groovyhistory.com/maidenform-bra-ads-I-dreamed https://envisioningtheamericandream.com/2018/03/06/maidenform-dream-ads-iconic-and-ironic/ https://nationalpoetryday.co.uk/poem/high-flight/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gillespie_Magee_Jr. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Revolutionary_Council https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rough_Riders https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverly_Hills_Supper_Club_fire https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irene_Dunne https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bikini https://www.nycotto.com/ (Ottomanelli Bros.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compi%C3%A8gne_Wagon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Shot_Liberty_Valance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3z4uXdNK9k (60s Clearasil Ad) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-ucBBA_AIY (that 70s Show - Eric, “Glorious Panties”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG_xdkGrwSA (Devil Wears Prada opening montage) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISCrrkSg8Zw (Ross and Monica - the routine) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx91ff77yzM (Aladdin - Friend Like Me) https://www.buzzfeed.com/sydrobinson1/dads-who-did-not-want-a-dog (dad/dog culture)
