S3 E1 MARK SNOAD is the Harmonica player for AP D'Antonio and the Captain Kidd Band, the YouBlues Band, and Don't Tell Joe

from BAND IT ABOUT - Podcast Series · host Di Spillane

S3 E1 Mark Snoad is a South Australian-born Hohner Harmonica player who despite having played from a young age, didn't actually join his first official band (AP D'Antonio and the Captain Kidd Band) until 2019. Mark began carrying his harmonica in his pocket and taking any opportunity to jump up and play at a party, at a jam, or with a band during the late 70s, managing to play often at the Ramsgate Hotel with Dr. Zen and the Interns. Mark has played with many musicians and bands here in Adelaide including; The Rock Doctor's, Tongue in Cheek, The Zensationals, Satisfaction - The Stones Show, Gwyn Ashton, Chris Finnen, and Gail Page. Since joining The Captain Kidd Band, Mark has also joined the YouBlues Band and Don't Tell Joe. Mark began to take playing the harmonica more seriously around 10 years ago after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and we discuss how playing the harmonica is good for physical and mental health during this interview. Music therapy provides an effective treatment approach to improve motor function, balance, freezing of gait, gait speed, and mental health in patients with Parkinson’s disease. This accessible instrument is an excellent tool for strengthening the diaphragm, increasing lung capacity and breath control, and improving respiratory functioning related to swallowing. All of these benefits directly relate to symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Mark plays a HOHNER Special 20 Harmonica, uses a Fender Blues Junior Amp, and an Astatic Harmonica Microphone that was once owned by Australian multi-instrumentalist Broderick Smith! Music: intro "Band It About" theme song, written and recorded for the BAND IT ABOUT - Podcast Series by Catherine Lambert and Michael Bryant. Outro:  "I'll Be Gone" written by Spectrum guitarist and vocalist Mike Rudd. Mark is playing the harmonica in this audio which was recorded during this year's Adelaide Fringe Festival 'A Rock Legends Show', held at Norwood Live, February 2022.
