S3 E12 - Story Time w/ Emilee Struss and Colton Sturm

from Listen Local

Hello Listen Local Fam! Even though the snow continued to fly this first week of April, that wasn't going to bring the spirits down in the BLA! Saying that, I think we can all agree that it is about time to transition to spring and summer. WE NEED OUR LAKE DAYS! Now, back to the episode... On this show, it was all about catching up with our ol' Listen Local pals Emilee Struss of Lake Country Journal and Colton Sturm of Beach Boys and Lynx Snowmobiles. First, Emilee tells us whats been going on in her world as of late, which includes everything from the two books she's in the process of getting published, some of the latest stories with the Lake Country Journal and even some talk about kick boxing. We also dive into what actually goes on in the brain of a writer. Seriously. Next, we call up our good friend Colton Sturm. We ALWAYS know it's going to be entertaining when he's on the show, and that was the case once again. Colton tells us about his winter travels west with Lynx Snowmobiles, and then right after he gets back home hopping right back on a sled to race in the Hillfest event out at Ski Gull last weekend. Him and the LL guys also talk about how cool it's been to see a little rejuvenation in the BLA snowmobile scene this winter. A lot of riders on the trails, lakes and ditches, as well as some really cool events in the area! Catch all of that and more on this latest episode of the Listnen Local Podcast! And of course... THANK YOU so much to our sponsor Tyler Gardner and Pequot Lakes and Gull Lake Sanitation. Chinook Realm Religion and crime collide when a gruesome murder rocks the isolated community of Chinook, Montana. Local Deputy Ruth Vogel thought she was answering a routine animal control call, only to find a mangled corpse on the frozen embankment. Her small town is whipped into a frenzy and everyone is quick to point their fingers at a drug-addicted teenager, but Ruth suspects connections to a powerful religious group. Enter Agent Loro, an enigmatic FBI investigator tracking an evangelical cult that may have roots right here in Chinook. Loro and Ruth form a cautious partnership to find the killer—but as the mystery winds through Ruth’s life, her family, and her church, she’ll discover something more sinister than murder is afoot.Binge all episodes of Chinook exclusively and ad-free by joining Wondery+ in the Wondery App, Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Guests will include both former and current believers in a variety of conspiracy theories, as well as debunkers, skeptics, and the investigators of those theories. I’m Mick West, a debunker. I wrote the book Escaping the Rabbit Hole – How to Debunk Conspiracy Theories using Facts, Logic, and Respect. This book came from my experiences running Metabunk – a debunking forum. Over the years I realized simply presenting corrections to people is not enough. We need effective communication, and we can’t do that if we don’t listen to and talk with each other. I’m hoping this podcast will help bridge that gap. Explicit Cast-A-Role: A Movie Podcast Cast-a-role A movie podcast that has absolutely nothing to do with cooking. Three friends take some of cinema’s much loved (or unloved) films and, for better or worse, stir in a different cast (it’s usually worse). A must listen for film and comedy fans alike.Cast-A-Role is filled with delicious humour, bad language, dubious opinions, and delectable movie trivia. Explicit
